How much Nicotine is there in Smokeless Tobacco Products?

On average moist snuff contains about 21-23 mg of nicotine per dip. The moist snuff available in teabag-like pouches contains about 15 mg. of nicotine per dose. However, it is difficult to estimate how much nicotine is actually being absorbed through the tissues of the mouth, because there are many factors that affect absorption. Some of these factors include the surface area of the tobacco, the aging and packaging of the tobacco, and the pH level in the mouth. However, it can be roughly estimated that a 30 minute, average size chew/dip gives as much nicotine as 3 cigarettes. A chewer who uses 2 cans per week is potentially getting as much nicotine as 1 1/2 pack-a-day smoker.
